Floral Quilt

My husband and I went on a trip down to Florida. On our drive down to Fl, we stopped at an antique shop in Alabama. I wanted to find something unique for my mom. I couldn't find anything really cool, but I did find a quilting book. I thought it was cool, it was a Better Homes and Garden quilting book from the 70s. I LOVED the quilt on the cover of the book. I said to Chris (my husband) I have to get this book so my mom can make me this quilt. (This is another one of her many talents.) It was only $2 so I was totally getting it. When we got home I gave the book to my mom and said I want this quilt. She told me there is no way she could me it. I was like really? The pattern is in there. She said it was way too hard. I was so bummed. So I never thought in a million years I would be getting this quilt, because I don't know how to quilt, I wasn't going to make it. But my mom (without me knowing) was busy learning how to make this quilt. She said there were a few times where she almost throw it away and was so frustrated with it, but with some encouragement from my grandma, she finished the quilt. She surprised me with it on Easter. I was so shocked, I couldn't believe it!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my quilt. It is so beautiful!

This is the book I got her...

This is the quilt, it looks just like the one in the book.
She did a great job of matching the fabric,
it looks almost identical. I LOVE IT!

1800's dresser

There is this AWESOME place called Dells Architectural Antiques where we live (Eau Claire, WI). It has everything from vintage toilets, old windows, cabinets, hardware, to old fire places. If you are looking for it, chances are they have it. I think it is one of my all time favorite places to go. I could spend hours there searching for different things and wondering about all the history of everything. My mom has been down there a few more times then me, haggling with the owner to get a good deal. One day my mom and I went down there to ask if he had any "junky" furniture that he would sell. They took us down to another building that they own and we got to go through it!!! We were like kids in a candy store!!! We found 4 dressers that we feel in love with. One was a dresser that was from the 1800s (that is what the owner said,  pretty sure he knows his stuff).  When it was time to haggle the prices, the guy that was helping us got the owner (because he makes all the final decisions on the price of everything, you always get "Have to ask Jeff." Just an FYI if you go down there.) So Jeff came and saw that it was my mom and laughed...that is how many times she has been down there trying to get a good deal...lol.

So this is the dresser, of course I do not have before picture...but when you see the top, how aged it is, it really did need some help. Trust me, we would just paint a beautiful dresser that old!!! So this how it turned out...

We left the top and first drawer wood. The top looks so industrial with all the history of the dents and use of it. I personally love that!

We were inspired by the knobs we found
for the idea of this dresser.

We wanted to "modernize it" a little so we thought the teal color would do that. We distressed it a little. I love the old key holes on it, I think it adds more character.

1st Before and After

I finally did it, took a before picture!!! It is just a little piece that we did, but it is still a before and after... there will more better ones I promise!!! It was a table my husband found, it was pretty rough (as you can see in the picture below)

BEFORE.....

AFTER...

We painted it that fun teal color and stenciled a flower on it. I think it would be cute in a little girls room with some little chairs or someone just starting out for their first apartment.

I also want to thank everyone for actually looking at our blog! We just hit 1000 page views! I know many bloggers get way, way more hits than that everyday, but I am just happy you all  are checking us out.
 THANK YOU so much!!!

Winter Blues

In Wisconsin in the middle of January there isn't much of thrift sale"ing" or flea marketing. The only thing that we have been thriving on in these winter months are the over picked Goodwills and Craigslist. So when my mom and I were finishing up Christmas shopping right before our Christmas party at my grandmas in the town she lives in, we found this little thrift store tucked on the corner. We were pumped!!! (That is an understatement, I think the lady who owned the place was a little scared of us, we were just a little excited finding all the cool finds...lol.) We got there about 10 min before she closed, we told her that we wouldn't be long and we only took 10 min, I think that was the best 10 min she ever had in sales...lol. We found the cute little table below with a lamp attached, a mirror, (waiting for a makeover), some awesome vintage skis, and I scored some vintage Christmas ornaments!

So this is the lamp table (I know, I know, no before pictures. We have slowly started remembering to take before pictures, we get too excited and start on our projects right away, then go oh crap, we forgot to take a before picture).

My mom redid the lamp shade, we both went to the fabric store and decided which fabrics to use, we wanted to go for that "shabby chic" look so we went with floral and pink ticking. I just love the knob that keeps the lamp shade on, it is some kind of bird, I think it adds that uniqueness to the piece. We spray painted the pole white, it was a brass color before.

Then we painted the table a pale pink and distressed it.

These are the skis, aren't they cool?

Shabby Shed Boutique

We are excited to announce that we are going to be selling our furniture at Shabby Shed Boutique. It is located in Bloomer, WI (about 20 min north of Eau Claire). Randine is the owner and she found us on craigslist. Because when you are first starting out craigslist never fails :). So my mom and I went up to check out the store and it seemed like a great fit for us! So we are very excited! They have several vendors. So there is a ton of different things from vintage, antiques to handmade mittens. So it is true that there is something for everyone there.

The store hours are:
Thursday - Friday 12-5, Saturday - Sunday 12-4.
You can also "like" their Facebook page

Here are some pictures of the different
things they sell to give you an idea!

Pink Lipstick Dresser

This is our new favorite piece!!! I am in love with this color pink!!! This piece was a free craigslist find. My husband is constantly looking on craigslist. He is the king of flipping and trying to find a good deal. So when he saw this for free he went and grabbed it right away. He had faith in my mom and I that we could do something with it. It was pretty ugly, it was about four different layers of paint all chipped. The typical piece of furniture that you see on the side of the road that looks like it is ready to go into the trash. It's amazing what a little paint and some creativity can do!!!

We left the original hardware and spray painted them black.

Don't you just love the flowers?

Blessed in 2012

Well it has been awhile since I have posted something, lets just say that December was CRAZY!!! My mom and I have been very blessed in 2012 with our passion for creating ugly furniture into lovely furniture.

First of all one of my mom's co-worker's wife asked if we wanted to sell our furniture and other neat finds at her monthly shop call the Market, which I have mentioned it several times by now.

Second,  technology is amazing!!! I have watched this show in the DIY network called Rehab Addict and of course you can "like" just about everything on facebook, so of course I "liked" the show with a little help of a friend showing me the page. Nicole Curtis, who hosts the show, posted on facebook to send her anything creative, like art, crafts, etc... so she can showcase the stuff in the latest house she restored. So I sent a few pictures of our furniture thinking never in a million years they will like our stuff, but I had to try right? Well no kidding I got an email back from one of the assistants!!! So next thing I know, my mom, my husband, and I are driving about 2 hours in the first snow storm of the year up to St. Paul to deliver this furniture. (We got around 14 inches of snow that snow storm.) Yes we are crazy, but I wasn't going to let anything come in my way of delivering that furniture. So it will be staged in the Case house she redid in her third season! I will have more details later. So with Christmas and this all happening, we had a busy December!

These are the pieces we took...

Now that things have settled down a little we are working on some new pieces for the big event at Banbury Place (where the Market is located) called the Art Crawl.  So this is the latest one we have finished.

We painted the couch table red with some black paint to show through when we distressed it. We put a pull knob on it to give it a little more character.
